Frozen Margarita Recipe: Pomegranate Margarita
Frozen margarita recipes are a slight variation of the traditional margarita. It gives your drink an extra coolness while sacrificing some of the liquor’s presence (that’s why any alcohol is easier to drink when cold).
Despite this, I love the way any frozen margarita recipe has a different “feel” to its original version. Do you feel the same way?
If so, get ready for the Frozen Pomegranate Margarita. Pomegranate juice is a powerful antioxidant rich in potassium and vitamin C. In fact, a single cup of pomegranate juice holds more antioxidants than red wine, green tea, cranberry and orange juice. And that miracle drink’s going straight to your margarita.
I know you won’t be drinking this or any other margarita for health reasons, but it’s still nice to know there's more in this recipe than just flavor.
As for the ice... yes, adding it to any hard dilutes it. How then should we go about making our frozen margarita while maintaining a strong tequila taste?
Remember, we want a margarita, not a cheap little Slurpee! That's why I’ll share a simple but effective trick that'll keep our tequila from diluting into oblivion.
Pomegranate Margarita
Cook time: 5 active minutes; 2 hours total time.
Makes: 1 serving.
Ingredients:
- 1 part tequila
- 2 parts pomegranate juice
- 1 part lime juice
- ½ part triple sec
- salt
- tools: margarita glass, ice cube tray, and blender.
Preparation:
Serve the pomegranate juice on the ice cube tray and freeze for 2 hours.
Salt the rim of your margarita glass using some lime juice.
Pour the lime juice and triple sec into the blender, setting it at its highest speed. Carefully add pomegranate ice cubes until you have only 2 remaining. Save those for later.
Your mix should start looking like a frappe. Serve it on your margarita glass. Voila, a frozen margarita reci… wait a minute! Aren’t we missing something?!
TEQUILA! Serve the tequila directly on top of your mix. By doing so you have avoided diluting your margarita’s liquor. Nice little trick, don’t you think?
Summing things up...
This is one of the best frozen margarita recipes I’ve tried. It should help out when you start to get bored of “everyday” margaritas.
The pomegranate juice is easy to obtain and even easier to mix, which makes this recipe a keeper. Happy drinking!
